Bangkok Johannes Kagerer’s first visit to Bangkok was around five years ago – a stopover in Thailand on a journey from New Zealand to Moscow. “At the time, I figured this was the last place I wanted to live,” he recalls.

A coincidence ensured that Kagerer gave the city of ten million inhabitants a second chance shortly thereafter: his partner at the time got a job there and he moved with her. When the relationship ended, Kagerer was already firmly rooted in his new home – and stayed. “I’ve become a fan of the city,” says the 34-year-old economist.
