They stole the cables of the charging station!
According to the post by @DoluBatarya on Twitter, the thieves stole the cables of the Togg Trugo charging station in Batman. Thieves cut the giant copper cables of the Vestel-manufactured charging station, enabling fast charging, and rendered the station unusable. A user with the nickname “Brs” shared photos of the incident on Twitter.
Currently, Vestel’s home AC type wall charging stations find buyers at the level of 20 thousand TL. The aforementioned fast charging station, on the other hand, has a much more advanced technology compared to home-type ones. However, the station is currently unusable due to the cut of the cables. Electric car users in the region have also suffered.
This type of electric car charging station theft first started in the United States. It was later seen in Europe and lastly in Turkey. This may be the first event, but it certainly won’t be the last due to malicious people. Therefore, manufacturers urgently have to ensure the safety of charging stations.
Otherwise, both manufacturers and electric car users will suffer more. The electrical charging station cables structure is actually a combination of many thin charging cables. They are strong in structure and not so easy to cut. However, some of the mentioned stations are located in unsafe areas far from city centers. With sufficient equipment, it is possible to cut the cables in such areas, although it may take some time.
