While phone scammers come up with a new method every day, another one of them has emerged today. The post made by Aykut Otu on Twitter is a warning to many.
A new one has joined the fraud incidents where dozens of people are defrauded every day. on Twitter by Aykut Grass In the shared incident, the scammers reached Otu, a Turkcell subscriber, and reported that he had a Turkcell TV+ subscription request and came for the installation. After Ottu said that there was no such request, the fraudsters took the next step.
According to Otu, the person who called him said that Otu sent a confirmation request to his phone to cancel his so-called Turkcell TV+ subscription application. The event request in question, Turkcell’s Fast Entry system belonged to. Otu did not suspect this and approved the request for approval. After this approval, Otu’s Turkcell line was closed.

The fraud incident took place as follows:

- Upon the answer that there is no such request, the so-called application sent a request for confirmation to be cancelled,
- However, the fraudsters, who did not write the purpose in the notification, contacted Otu on the line. Used it to login to Turkcell Digital Operator,
- The scammers forwarded the incoming SMS to Otu’s line to another line after receiving the approval,
- Then, Otu’s WhatsApp account was redirected to another line. Thanks to the lack of SMS and two-factor authentication access has been granted,
- The scammers closed the Turkcell line to prevent Otu from regaining access to the account, enabled two-factor authentication on WhatsApp,
- Contacted the people registered in Otu’s directory and demanded 9,600 TL from each of them,
- Otu contacted Turkcell and reopened his line and got his account back by verifying SMS on WhatsApp again.

Although Ottu managed to get his line back, due to the fact that WhatsApp’s dual verification expires in 7 days until this time is up he will not be able to access his account.
The fraud incident in question was a new reminder to be careful about phone frauds. Moreover two factor authentication re-emerged in importance. On the other hand, the fault was not entirely with the user. Turkcell did not include the purpose of sending this request in the confirmation request it sent to the user.
