Dusseldorf A lot is still being built in Germany. But industry representatives fear slumps in the new construction business due to the sustained rise in prices for building materials. That said Hans Maier, Director of the Association of the Bavarian Housing Industry.
There is a risk “that the economy in the construction industry will be badly affected,” says Tim-Oliver Müller, General Manager of the Main Association of the German Construction Industry. In a survey by the association in mid-April, nine out of ten companies complained about price increases.
Many building material suppliers currently only give daily updated prices for many materials – or do not make any price commitments at all. If possible, an attempt is made to agree price escalation with clients. Many suppliers reserve the right to adjust the price of the delivered goods if the cost price increases.
“We are currently seeing a high and rising price level across the board – actually across all relevant building materials,” says Mike Jansen, construction industry expert at the management consultancy Inverto.
