Düsseldorf, Frankfurt Anyone who takes another look at the virtual wallet at the end of the turbulent year on the crypto market will notice: Many coins, some of which were still unknown at the beginning of the year, performed better than Bitcoin in 2021.
So-called altcoins are alternative coins besides Bitcoin, which is considered the father of all crypto currencies among observers of the crypto world. In fact, Bitcoin is the oldest and still the largest of the more than 15,000 cryptocurrencies that the Coinmarketcap platform has recorded.
The individual alternatives cannot yet overtake Bitcoin in terms of market capitalization. But as far as the price development of the past year is concerned, many of them overshadow Bitcoin.
