Real estate prices in Mainz have risen significantly over the past decade. They are currently going back.

Mainz “Hopefully the people of Mainz don’t make the same mistakes as the people of Sindelfingen,” says Reiner Braun, thinking of the boom in the Swabian city that he experienced in his youth. Mainz benefits from the vaccine developer Biontech, Sindelfingen received high trade taxes from Mercedes. “A lot of useful things were done with the money, but also non-traditional ideas were implemented,” recalls the managing director of the real estate market analysis company Empirica. This is how Sindelfingen got into the press because a zebra crossing was built out of marble.
In Mainz they want to put part of the money into the construction of inexpensive apartments – in order to maintain the position as a hotspot in the Rhine-Main area. Some projects have already been launched.
