Geneva Ahead of the February 24 anniversary of the Russian invasion, Moscow is intensifying its attacks. In an interview with the Handelsblatt, David Petraeus warns of the force of the coming military strikes: Although there have been considerable miscalculations and losses on the part of the Kremlin troops in the course of the war so far, the power of the Russian army should not be underestimated, emphasizes the former four-star general of the US Army and CIA chief.

Russia still has “a significant mass of soldiers, artillery, missiles, drones and other weapon systems”. On the other hand, the Russians would probably already have suffered eight times more casualties on the battlefield than the then Soviet Union had suffered in nearly a decade of war in Afghanistan.

Petraeus welcomes the delivery of Western warplanes, attack helicopters and longer-range missiles to Ukraine. “We’ve always been overly cautious,” he says.
