Harrison tweeted on Tuesday:

“I am stepping down as president of @FTX_Official. Over the next few months I will be handing over my responsibilities and moving into a consulting role at the company.”

Harrison, who joined FTX.US as president in May 2021, managed the company’s growth while gaining unicorn company status and opened to trading in equities and non-fungible tokens outside of crypto. The company is currently aiming to launch a new crypto derivatives product.

Harrison’s next moves are currently unclear. The former president used the following statements in his message:

“I can’t wait to share more about what I’m going to do next. Until then, I will assist Sam and his team through this transition to ensure FTX finishes the year with all its characteristic momentum.”

Still, the news is remarkable given his publicly visible role in the company founded by cryptocurrency entrepreneur Sam Bankman-Fried.

Harrison until last week bitcoin and financial press, and represented the firm at conferences including Anthony Scaramucci’s SALT.

In August, FTX.US brokered more than $6.6 billion in cryptocurrencies, compared to around $2 billion in June 2021, a far cry from major competitors like Coinbase and Kraken.
