The SCT tax regulation has a short lifespan!

In the last few years, the price of all technological products, especially automobiles, has been increasing due to exchange rate changes and inflation. In response, the public had expectations similar to tax cuts. As a matter of fact, the SCT base regulation was made in response to this expectation. But this situation seems to have mixed the market thoroughly. Here are the details…

The SCT base update first brought a discount, then a raise!

There is an interaction that extends to the end user in the form of branches of the tree, such as tens of big companies in the automotive sector, thousands of dealers selling under their roofs and service branches, and then touches each other again in the second hand sector.

The SCT base update came to the fore as a change that would have a positive impact on all these branches. Because when the expired tax bases were active again, it was expected that there would be a decrease of up to 70 thousand TL in certain price ranges (sales price below 600 thousand TL), although not in all cars.

SCT tax regulation has arrived! How much discount will there be on brand new cars?

SCT tax regulation has arrived! How much discount will there be on brand new cars?

The SCT tax regulation, which is expected to arrive on December 1, 2022 for the automobile, entered into force with the Official Gazette published today.

Indeed, this expectation turned out to be true. We have seen that the price of many models has decreased by 5-10 percent at different rates. However, there were also cars whose prices remained the same, and even increased, although the new tax base arrangement directly affected them.

For example, the Rio 1.2L 84 PS Manual model, which had a turnkey price of 471 thousand TL in November, decreased to 418 thousand 830 TL after the regulation. Similarly, Fiat Egea Sedan’s entry package Easy 1.4 Fire 95 HP, which had a campaign turnkey price of 395 thousand 900 TL in November, decreased to 355 thousand 800 TL.

But there are also cars that are increasing in price. An example of this is the Renault Clio Joy 1.0 SCe 65 hp model, which was sold at 373 thousand TL last week, and whose price increased to 386 thousand TL as of December. However, the price of this vehicle in November is not actually 373 thousand TL.

The recommended turnkey price in the first price lists announced as of November was announced as 438 thousand TL. Then, after the SCT regulation, which was announced on 1 December, but was withdrawn to 24 November due to the effect of stopping the market, it decreased to 373 thousand TL.

In other words, we see that there is a discount of around 65 thousand TL. Therefore, there is no automobile whose price has been increased despite the tax assessment. However, it is seen that there was a 13 thousand TL increase in December due to the monthly inflation hikes.

If the SCT reduction had been made in December as planned, we would have seen a 52 thousand TL reduction instead of a raise. However, this picture we come across shows that this reduction in automobile prices, up to 70 thousand TL, will only have an effect for a few months. Afterwards, the activated base sections will lose their function again.
