With the new regulation, the requirement to bring a telephone from abroad has been changed, effective as of November 1, 2022. Citizens who go abroad will now be able to bring a phone with them every 3 years.
If it is desired to bring a second device within this period, it will not be exempt from customs tax. In other words, in addition to the IMEI registration fee, you will have to pay a tax. Of course, this is not the only limitation. There is also a restriction on the usage side.
According to the second rule, the phone brought from abroad can only be used with the line and SIM card of the person whose passport is registered. Therefore, second-hand sales will also be prevented. Although it has not been clarified yet, it is estimated that the second rule will be valid for 3 years.
The statement made by the Ministry of Commerce for the requirement to bring a phone from abroad is as follows:
“Within the scope of the said application, an important regulation is being implemented under the coordination of the General Directorate of Customs Enforcement of the Ministry of Commerce in order to enable one technical follow-up of the exemption limit for mobile phones with passengers in 3 calendar years. Within the scope of the technical work carried out within the scope of the Ministry of Commerce and the information technologies and communication institution, the number of mobile phones brought by the passengers within a 3-year period will be monitored and beyond the exemption rights of the passengers, it will be prevented to bring more than one phone in 3 years.“
