The many digital ministers of the federal government

The Digital Minister now has to share his tasks with representatives of the Federal Chancellery and the Ministries of Economics, Interior and Finance.

Berlin In the future, the Digital Ministry will have to coordinate with other departments of the Federal Government in order to shape digital policy. This emerges from a five-page strategy paper from the Federal Chancellery, which is available to the Handelsblatt.

The government has appointed a “coordination group of the leading departments at state secretary level” “to coordinate digital policy cooperation in key priority projects”, as the paper says. The Federal Chancellery, the Federal Digital Ministry and the Economics, Interior and Finance Ministries are represented there.

The head of the Chancellery will also be responsible for “the overarching strategic control of digitization in the federal administration” via the IT Council. The SPD, Greens and FDP are therefore jointly responsible for digital policy.
