The number of digital video platforms and the number of users is increasing day by day. Many of the domestic and foreign platforms operate in our country. In fact, it is expected that HBO Max, which is growing rapidly around the world, will officially start to serve in the coming days.
A report that emerged in the USA revealed which of these platforms are growing, how much market volume they have reached, and they are downsizing by losing customers to their competitors. However, considering the increase in the increasing number of users, a serious decrease in revenues is not expected.
Netflix’s earnings report was disappointing!
According to the famous analyst, buying Netflix stock can be a dead investment. Netflix’s January 2022 earnings report did not inspire confidence.
Netflix became the leader of digital video platforms!
Apple has significantly increased its investment in its own streaming platform, Apple TV+, which includes original movies and TV shows. However, its share in the market increased by 2 percent, reaching only 5 percent. While the streaming platform has more subscribers than Paramount+ (formerly CBS All Access), it lagged far behind its competitors.
When we look at the announced data, we see that the market share of HBO Max in the USA has grown by 5 percent and reached 12 percent. Hulu and Disney+, which are under the umbrella of Disney, manage to go one step further with 13 percent each. Amazon Prime video, which is also available in our country, ranks 2nd in the list with a share of 19%.
Netflix, on the other hand, sitting in the leadership seat, exceeded expectations by gaining 8.28 million global paid net subscribers in the last quarter of 2021. But when we look at the overall total, it no longer has 27 percent of the market, but 25 percent. Still, this is a pretty high rate. It shows that 1 out of every 4 people in the digital environment is a member of this platform.
As such, we can understand why Apple wants a bigger slice of the pie. The company is investing in popular franchises to make its streaming platform more attractive to subscribers. It has even recently ordered a live-action series of Godzilla and Titans, as well as launching a show based on Isaac Asimov’s award-winning science fiction book series The Foundation.
The fact that the competition is so fierce will be in favor of the consumer in terms of both prices and content. Therefore, like everyone else, we support the arrival of not only HBO but also all digital video platforms to Turkey.
