First PİRİREİS, then HIZIRREİS met the sea!
As it is known, the Presidency of Defense Industries launched the New Type Submarine project. Within the scope of the project, 5 new submarines will be produced for the defense of the Blue Homeland. So far, the production of 2 ships has been completed. The first of these was the PİRİREİS Submarine, named after the Turkish sailor Piri Reis, who drew the world’s oldest and most accurate map.
The ship met with water in recent months. It is stated that the ship, which will be named TCG PİRİREİS after its delivery to the Republic of Turkey, will be included in the inventory of the Turkish Armed Forces in 2023. Right after PİRİREİS, the HIZIRREİS Submarine met with water. It is expected that HIZIRREİS, whose first tests have started, will be added to the Turkish Armed Forces inventory in the coming years.

What is the New Type Submarine Project (YTDP) actually?
The New Type Submarine Project (YTDP) is a naval reinforcement project initiated by the Presidency of Defense Industries. Within the scope of the project, 6 new ships called Reis Class will join the Turkish Armed Forces inventory. SSB, which carries out the project, signed an agreement with the German submarine and warship manufacturer TKMS on 22 June 2011.
Within the scope of the project, a total of 6 warships, 5 of which are submarines, will be produced for the Turkish Navy. The first of these is the TCG PİRİREİS Submarine, whose production was completed in 2019. Along with the promotion ceremony of the PİRİREİS Submarine held in 2019, the first welding ceremony of the TCG Seydi Ali Reis submarine was held.
All submarines to be produced will have Air Independent Propulsion System (AIP). Those with this system are known as the best submarines after the submarines with the nuclear propulsion system. Models with the AIP system can operate in full range for very long periods of time without surfacing.
Within the scope of the project, many domestic defense industry companies are working with the German TKMS company. HAVELSAN, ASELSAN, AYESAŞ, STM, KOÇ BİLGEM, TÜBİTAK and MilSoft are a few of them.
