The infrastructure for a state gas distribution is in operation

The term “federal load distributor” is actually a euphemism. He suggests there is something to distribute. In reality, however, the point is that the Federal Network Agency, as the highest German regulatory authority, decides in the event of a shortage who will have gas cuts. This is regulated by law.

In a shortage situation, there is not enough gas to supply everyone. In this case, different instruments are available. These include the so-called individual orders. They state that individual industrial companies have to reduce their gas consumption or stop it altogether in an emergency.

In order to make such complex decisions, a database is required that provides an overview of the gas demand and the available gas quantities. That is why the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection, together with Trading Hub Europe (THE) and the Federal Network Agency, developed the gas security platform, which went into operation on Thursday.

Only when all other measures have been exhausted does the state intervene in the gas supply
