Berlin Are almost ten billion euros of state aid too much for a single chip factory? At least since the federal government agreed with the US chip company Intel last week to increase the subsidy for the planned plant in Magdeburg from 6.8 to 9.9 billion euros, political Berlin has been discussing this question.

The federal government celebrates having lured Intel here, also because the group has almost doubled its investment in Magdeburg. Many economists express harsh criticism, some speak of blackmail.
