Berlin The Greens’ final staffing sheet is slowly taking shape. Greens federal manager Michael Kellner, for example, is supposed to follow still party leader Robert Habeck in the newly structured Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection.

The 44-year-old becomes Parliamentary State Secretary under the Minister-designate and Vice Chancellor Habeck. The European politician Franziska Brantner and the environmental and economic politician Oliver Krischer also become Parliamentary State Secretaries in the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate.

The final list is available to the Handelsblatt. The dpa news agency first reported on the personal details. In the future, a total of five ministries will be headed by Green politicians. These are the future Parliamentary State Secretaries:

State ministers and parliamentary state secretaries must belong to the Bundestag, support the ministers in their political tasks and can act as ministers’ deputies, for example in the Bundestag or at political events. They take care of contacts with the parliamentary groups and the Federal Council, but also – especially in the case of the Federal Foreign Office – abroad.

It is still unclear who will lead the party in the future. A change of power is also looming in the parliamentary group. Anyone who moves up into the government is no longer allowed to lead the party, as stipulated in the statutes of the Greens. “Minister and party chairmanship is excluded,” Habeck had meanwhile emphasized several times.

He has to vacate his post, as well as co-party leader Annalena Baerbock and almost the entire management team. The six-member body, as stipulated in the statutes, may include a maximum of two members of the Bundestag. Since the election, however, there have been five members of the Bundestag.

Successor duo for Habeck and Baerbock

A successor duo for Habeck and Baerbock is supposedly already ready: Ricarda Lang and Omid Nouripour. Lang, 27, belongs to the left wing of the party and was only promoted to the federal executive committee in November 2019. In September she moved into the Bundestag.

Lang has so far been silent about her ambitions, as has foreign policy-maker Nouripour, who has been in the Bundestag for 15 years. He was a member of the federal executive committee between 2002 and 2006. The Bundestag member Franziska Brantner was also in discussion for the party chairmanship, but is no longer running because she is moving to Habeck’s ministry as State Secretary.

Two women could lead the parliamentary group in the Bundestag in the future: Katharina Dröge and Britta Haßelmann. Dröge, economic policy spokeswoman, belongs to the left wing of the Greens and has already declared her application.

Haßelmann, hitherto parliamentary managing director, belongs to the Realo wing like Habeck and Baerbock, but is still holding back. The election will take place next week.
