What will come with Android 13?
Focusing strictly on Material You customizable themes with Android 12, Google will expand dynamic app icons to other apps besides Google apps with Android 13. For this feature, which is only supported on Pixel devices for now, the company reported that they are still in talks with other phone manufacturers.
One of the innovations we saw with the first developer preview was security-focused improvements. With Android 13, a new photo picker will come into our lives that will allow you to share local or cloud-based photos more securely. It will allow us to share images with any app we want without having to allow all media files on our device.
Google’s new software will also add a Nearby Wi-Fi Devices permission, which will be required for apps that search for available Wi-Fi devices around you. You will be able to discover and connect to nearby devices via Wi-Fi without the need for location permission. In this way, access to your GPS will not be requested and your privacy will be kept in the foreground.
Google will continue to release developer previews of Android 13 in February and March. In April, the first Beta version will be released. The stable version is expected to be released in June and July.
