Berlin Robert Habeck (Greens) is satisfied with himself and the traffic light coalition. “This government is making more than 200 billion euros available for energy security and climate protection by 2026,” announced the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs on Sunday evening. This is a success after intensive negotiations. “More than ever we need to invest in our energy sovereignty.”

The Greens had to expect a lot from their base in the past few days. Coal-fired power plants that are harmful to the climate could run longer if gas imports declined. A future phase-out of nuclear power is also being discussed. In addition, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) announced that the Bundeswehr would be equipped with a special fund of 100 billion euros. Not all Greens agree with this.

Now there should finally be success. After Habeck’s announcement, leading Green politicians spread the message: “200 billion for energy sovereignty, climate protection and transformation,” wrote party leader Ricarda Lang on Twitter. “This is how energy, but also security policy works in the 21st century.”
