The button has been pressed for solar energy panels in space!

The energy problem has been emerging all over the world recently. The thought that resources will be insufficient in the near future has led many organizations to renewable energy. So much so that when it comes to renewable energy, solar energy is undoubtedly one of the first resources that come to mind. Every day, a new one is added to the studies carried out in order to obtain maximum energy from this source. Finally, eyes turned to space-based solar energy projects.

European Space Agency wants to develop space-based solar energy project

Josef Aschbacher, director general of the European Space Agency (ESA), has issued a statement that draws attention to the energy problem and points out important solutions. The statement emphasized Europe’s goals to increase energy independence and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Maximum power limit increased for solar plants

The Board decision of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) was published in the Official Gazette. The maximum power limit for unlicensed SPPs is 25 kW!

Josef Aschbacher stated that they pressed the button to work on a space-based solar energy project for more efficient use of solar energy. ESA, which has done research on this subject many times before, published its studies this week to provide technical and programmatic information to policy makers in Europe.

We are pushing the limits of technology to solve one of the most pressing problems for people in this era. This solution will depend on Europe, ESA and its Member States.

Josef Aschbacher is preparing to present this program, called Solaris, to the ESA Council in November. According to Aschbacher, if all goes as planned, the program will begin in 2025. On the other hand, operating a space-based power system is of course not easy. According to consultancy reports, Europe currently consumes around 3,000 TWh of electricity annually. So much so that developing and integrating such a system would cost hundreds of billions of euros.
