Higher level of security
The standard safety features of the Volvo EX90 are at a higher level than any previous Volvo. The Volvo EX90 is a car designed to understand its user and his environment, and to keep passengers and others in the traffic safe. In addition, it has the potential to become a smarter and safer car every day, thanks to the updates it learns from the new data it collects and the updates it receives.
Inside and outside the Volvo EX90 is an invisible safety shield provided by the latest sensing technologies. State-of-the-art sensors such as cameras, radars and Lidar are connected to the car’s high-performance core computers.
A real-time, 360-degree view of the outside world is created with software developed in-house by Volvo Cars, running on NVIDIA DRIVE.
Sensors that never tire and never get distracted; designed to respond on behalf of the driver and intervene when events are too late to react. Lidar can detect the road, day or night, even at highway speeds. It can see small objects hundreds of meters ahead, informing the driver, creating more time to act and avoid. Volvo EX90 sensors also improve the reliability and overall performance of Pilot Assist, the assisted driving system that engages when changing lanes.
The Volvo EX90’s invisible safety shield also monitors the driver inside the car. Special sensors and cameras, powered by Volvo Cars’ in-house developed algorithms, measure the driver’s eye gaze concentration. Thanks to this feature, which is far beyond the technologies ever found in a Volvo car, the Volvo EX90 detects when the driver is distracted or elsewhere, or when he is tired and sleepy.
In such cases, the system first gently nudges the user, and if the situation does not change, it warns more persistently. If the unexpected happens – like falling asleep or getting sick while driving – the Volvo EX90 stops safely and calls for help.
In a sense, thanks to a set of state-of-the-art sensors including Lidar, the Volvo EX90 is the first Volvo car to be equipped for future unsupervised driving.
Technology with a purpose
A core system powered by NVIDIA DRIVE AI platforms Snapdragon® Cockpit Platforms from Xavier, Orin and Qualcomm Technologies; Developed in-house by Volvo engineers, software runs most of the car’s core functions, from the safety and infotainment system to battery management. The result is a more responsive and enjoyable experience inside the car.
In other words, the Volvo EX90 is more than just a new car, it’s designed as a highly advanced computer on wheels. Better still, it’s scheduled to evolve even more over time, thanks to regular software updates, just like on smartphones or laptops.
The Volvo EX90 combines the cutting-edge computing power of Snapdragon’ Cockpit Platforms with the visualization capabilities of the Unreal Engine, the 3D tool developed by Epic Games and used to power some of the world’s biggest games. Thus, it offers the driver lightning-fast processing power and high-quality graphics on the in-car and head-up display.
It features a 14.5-inch center display, the best infotainment systems ever offered by Google, Google Assistant’s voice command assistance, Google Maps navigation, and many of your favorite apps from Google Play. The screens in the Volvo EX90 help the driver keep their eyes on the road by presenting the right information to the user at the right time. The Volvo EX90 is also planned to be compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay.
If there is a standard 5G connection, the required applications can be easily installed on the home screen. In addition, thanks to the new Bowers & Wilkins sound system with Dolby Atmos feature, which is a first for Volvo, and speakers integrated into the head restraint, the most popular music can be enjoyed with pleasure.

Set out for a more sustainable lifestyle
The all-new, in-house developed all-electric technology base, the Volvo EX90, offers an exhaust-free driving range of up to 600 kilometers on a single charge, and charges from 10 percent to 80 percent in less than 30 minutes, according to the WLTP test cycle.
The dual-motor all-wheel drive version offered in the first place has a 111 kWh battery and the performance version has two permanent magnet electric motors providing 380 kW (517 hp) and 910 Nm of torque. Volvo EX90, with its new chassis, offers a wonderful and smooth driving experience.
The Volvo EX90 contains about 15 percent recycled steel, 25 percent recycled aluminum and 48 kilograms of recycled plastics and bio-based materials. This makes up about 15 percent of the total plastic used in the car, the highest rate ever used in any Volvo car.
Finally, the Volvo EX90 will be the first car to be fully equipped to enable bidirectional charging. Thanks to this technology, users will be able to use their car as an energy source to power their home, electrical appliances or any other electric Volvo car. Volvo Cars plans to make bidirectional charging available in the future, starting in select markets.
