Berlin Ukraine’s recent military successes in the war against the aggressor Russia have attracted worldwide attention. And they nourish the hope that the brutally attacked country might be able to defend its territory against the enemy, who initially seemed overpowered. Above all, however, the course of the war raises the question of what the causes of this development are and how long the balance of power between the two armies has shifted.
According to military expert Nico Lange, the decisive factor for the success of the Ukrainians is the leadership culture in the army. “Especially at the middle level, they have very good military leaders who are not only battle-hardened, but also make decisions independently.”
