Frankfurt There are pithy words that Bafin Executive Director Frank Grund chose: “People who have been told dead live longer,” said the head of insurance supervision at an event in June – and by that he meant the German life insurers. For a long time, they have been groaning under the low interest rates, the corona pandemic has ruined the hope of an early end to the permanent low interest rates. But he is confident, according to reason, that the life insurers can fulfill their guarantee promises.
Nonetheless, the recurring reports about the difficult situation in the industry unsettle many consumers. The consumer advocates from the Federation of Insureds (BdV) warn, for example, that they consider at least a quarter of the approximately 80 life insurers in Germany to be counted. Policyholders therefore ask themselves how sustainable their provider is.
