Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk changed prices in some countries as a precaution against Chinese competitors in the ever-growing electric car market. In our country, the SCT tax on electric vehicles is determined as 10% if the vehicle has a power of less than 160 kW. 160 kW and above must pay a tax of 40%. Keep this information in mind because Tesla engineers changed the Model Y tax rate in our country with their hands.
Tesla took an incredible step that we are not used to seeing in every country. It released a model with engine power suitable for the tax bracket in Turkey. Engine power is at full limit. In other words, 160 kW falls under the SCT rate of 10%, not 60%. The sales price also drops significantly. It is said that this operation was conveyed to Tesla management by the Tesla Turkey team for a long time and came into force with the approval of Elon Musk.
Currently, the rear-wheel drive Model Y has an engine power of 220 kW. By reducing this engine power to 159 kW with software, engineers reduced the price of Model Ys sold in Turkey at the same rate. In addition, a special pricing was made for Turkey and as of today, the price of Tesla Model Y in Turkey is around 1 Million 800 thousand TL.
