Dusseldorf Energy-efficient and sustainable real estate, smooth digital communication with the landlords and a good connection to various mobility offers – these are demands that tenants have of their apartment or house. But desire and reality often diverge, shows a survey on the future of living, which is available exclusively to Handelsblatt Inside Energie & Immobilien. To this end, opinion research institute Civey surveyed 5,000 tenants and 169 decision-makers from the housing industry on behalf of Aareal Bank last February.

Of course, affordable living space is the dominant issue for tenants, says Lars Ernst, Head of the Banking & Digital Solutions segment at the real estate financier. And here the pressure is likely to increase, especially in the big cities, because there rents continue to rise in contrast to purchase prices.
