Munich The shopping spree is canceled: consumers worldwide will buy fewer televisions, notebooks and smartphones in 2022 than expected at the beginning of the year. Market researchers predict that the war in Ukraine and sharply rising prices will spoil the mood for customers to buy.

The numerous lockdowns in the People’s Republic will also weigh on business, warns TSMC boss Mark Liu. The manager should know: almost all of the world’s major chip producers purchase the company’s semiconductors from Taiwan. The components have to be ordered months in advance, so it’s easy to read the electronics industry’s expectations from the books of the world’s largest contract manufacturer in the chip industry.

The financial information service “Nikkei Asia” reports that major manufacturers such as Dell, HP and Asustek have cut their orders from suppliers in Asia for the coming months. The PC market would shrink by a single-digit percentage in the second quarter compared to the previous year. At the end of February, experts would have predicted at least stable business.
