Internet usage in Turkey rose to 79 percent

While it is stated that internet usage in the 16-74 age group has increased to 79 percent in 2020, the Presidential Digital Transformation Office called on citizens to limit the use of technology. This value, which is quite high, means that almost 8 out of 10 people actively use the internet.

In fact, this is quite normal if we consider that communication and even business is carried out over the internet today. WhatsApp and similar applications, which are the basic communication tool, are indispensable for people. However, social media platforms also became widespread during this period, reaching even small children.

The Presidency Digital Transformation Office, which wants to prevent the problem, especially emphasized four items in the report it published and demanded attention to these. Here are those items:

  • Monitor the screen usage time of technological devices such as computers, tablets or phones.
  • Do not use digital devices except for emergencies when you spend time with your family or friends.
  • Determine the period you will work and your free time well. Use the technological devices for fun within the spare time period you set.
  • Track how much time you spend on digital games, internet or social media platforms. Limit yourself so you don’t overdo it.

In addition to these, with the effect of the pandemic, while the use of technological devices has increased in Turkey as in the whole world, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced that the internet usage in the 16-74 age group in 2020 was 79 percent. Again, according to the research, it was determined that while internet access from home was 88 percent in 2019, this rate increased to 90 percent in 2020.
