Third-party payment method problem grows after Apple, Epic lawsuit
The lawsuit, which started when Fortnite was kicked out of the iOS platform after using an alternative system to Apple payment methods, is still ongoing. Although the court gave the final decision for the Apple and Epic case, both companies appealed the decision. Epic Games also argued in this appeal that Apple was obstructing third-party payment method systems.
Accordingly, after the court decision, Apple activated alternative third-party payment methods for the App Store in the USA. However, when developers use these payment methods, they have to pay a 27 percent commission to Apple. As you know, the App Store currently takes 30 percent commission from each application.
Epic Games is of the opinion that the three percent difference between the two commission fees is not encouraging. This time, Apple got into trouble with more technology giants. Accordingly, Microsoft supported Epic Games with a petition in Match Group, owner of Meta, X and Tinder.
