Tech Giants Banned from Opening Factories in China

The United States Secretary of Commerce announced a major restriction on US technology giants under the newly launched funding program. The minister shared that giant companies cannot establish advanced facilities in China for 10 years.

While the technology war between China and the USA continues over companies, another striking move came from the USA recently. The country’s government had banned NVIDIA and AMD’s graphics processors, which are used for purposes such as machine learning and artificial intelligence development, to China.

After this ban, which came into force in the past days, another much bigger ban came from the USA today. The Joe Biden administration said that the US-based technology companies, which receive support from the US federal funding, “advanced technologyannounced that it would ban him from establishing the facilities for 10 years.

“They will not be allowed to use this money to invest in China”

Making a statement on the subject, US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo said, “CHIPS [yeni fon programı] We will implement the guardrails to ensure that those receiving the funds do not endanger national security. They will not be allowed to use this money to invest in China. They cannot develop the latest technologies in China. for a period of 10 years.” he said.

Gina Raimondo continued that the companies benefiting from the fund will now only have their existing factories in China, that they can expand to serve the Chinese market shared.

So what is this CHIPS program?

The CHIPS program, which aims to ensure that the USA maintains its leadership in technology and widens the difference, is a program for USA-based technology companies. $50 billion fund will separate. The USA, which will support three different initiatives to achieve this goal, will allocate $39 billion to only two of the initiatives. These two initiatives will aim to move chip production entirely to the USA.

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo confirms applications from companies for the CHIPS program. from February 2023 announced that they were planning to buy it. These companies, on the other hand, will have to comply with major restrictions in China, as we have just mentioned. Among these companies, giant names such as Intel and NVIDIA are expected.
