Berlin Federal and state tax revenues fell significantly in June. They fell by 7.3 percent to 86.4 billion euros compared to the same month last year, according to the new monthly report of the Federal Ministry of Finance, which is to be published on Thursday.

The FDP-led ministry blamed both special effects in the previous year and the current aid to combat high inflation. In May there was still an increase of 8.5 percent.

In the first six months of 2023, tax revenue was almost 400 billion euros, two percent lower than in the previous year. However, experts expect an increase of almost three percent to a good 838 billion euros for the year as a whole.

“The economic indicators continue to show a mixed picture,” the monthly report continued. “With the expected decline in inflation and the wage increases to be expected on the basis of collective wage agreements, growth in real incomes can be expected again over the course of the year, which should support private consumption.” However, there are many uncertainties and downside risks. “It is possible that the economic recovery expected in current economic forecasts for the course of the year will at least be delayed.”
