Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin paid a surprise visit to the technology summit in Kiev to support Ukraine.
Russian-born Ethereum Founder Supports Ukraine Since the Start of War
The ETH founder, born in Russia, took a special time to visit the ETH blockchain’s update known as Merge.
Organizers said that the founder of ETH, Vitalik Buterin, surprised the attendees of the Kyiv Technology Summit yesterday, supporting Ukraine, which was devastated by war.
The visit was kept secret until the last minute due to security measures.
The ETH founder, who met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2017 to discuss ETH investments, has been criticizing his country’s government and its war with Ukraine for years.
Speaking at the closing panel of the summit, Buterin said:
“I have been following Ukraine closely since the war started.
I wanted to come here and see for myself.
I came to Ukraine to let you know that many people in the world of ETH and crypto really care about and support you.”
Buterin added that he wonders what kind of projects people in Ukraine are interested in, what implications this interest might have for blockchain, Web3 and ETH.
The founder of ETH provided great financial support to Ukraine.
CJ Hetherington, one of the coordinators of the summit, said, “It was incredible that the Ministry of Digital Transformation supported us as well as Vitalik.” said.
The Kyiv Technology Summit was recorded as a kind of protest rather than an ordinary technology event.
Other speakers of the summit include Kiril Khomiakov, Managing Director of Binance Ukraine, NEAR Protocol co-founder Illia Polosukhin and Ukraine Startup Fund Director Pavlo Kartashov were also present.
