Stuttgart The supplier Mahle is calling on the car manufacturers for support in view of the production problems caused by the corona crisis and the Ukraine war. The pandemic and the war led to ever greater supply chain problems and enormous cost increases, explained Mahle CFO Michael Frick on Monday. In the past two years, the Stuttgart group has largely taken on the burden associated with the pandemic.

But now car manufacturers and suppliers are called upon to work together as partners to find out about a fair distribution of the burden from this difficult situation. The shortage of parts such as cable harnesses from the Ukraine and the semiconductor bottleneck that has existed for a long time have repeatedly led to production stops among car manufacturers.

The current challenges are a tour de force for the company, which is in the middle of the transition from combustion technology to electromobility, added Frick. The chief financial officer is leading the company on an interim basis, as CEO Matthias Arleth is leaving after only four months in office at the end of the month. Mahle recently justified the amicable end of the cooperation with different views on the future strategy of the group.

The manufacturer of drive technology and thermal management was able to recover last year from the corona-related slump of the previous year. Sales rose by twelve percent to eleven billion euros, the return on sales climbed to 1.5 percent after minus two percent in 2020.
