Berlin René Obermann is very familiar with the customs of politics. As a former CEO of Deutsche Telekom, he had to keep the political influence of the federal government as a major shareholder on business decisions as small as possible.

In the meantime, his points of contact with politics have multiplied again significantly. As Chairman of Airbus, Europe’s second-largest armaments group with significant holdings by the German and French states, he is at the center of many geopolitical actions and considerations.

The experienced manager not only has to carefully balance the balance of power between Berlin and Paris within the company, but also has to broaden his horizons: to the war in Ukraine and its consequences for the European armaments industry. Experts currently consider this to be far too fragmented to offer the continent more military sovereignty in the future.
