State funding for hydrogen project is approaching

Berlin, Dusseldorf Progress in the aid procedure for Thyssen-Krupp: The first agreements have now been reached in the negotiations with the EU Commission on the state aid worth billions, the Handelsblatt learned from circles in the Federal Ministry of Economics (BMWK).

In the past few days, the European Commission and the Ministry of Economic Affairs have agreed “on key parameters for the approval of the subsidy” for Thyssen-Krupp’s hydrogen decarbonization project.

The bases for the approval decision are thus clearly outlined. The final state aid approval from the European Commission can be expected in the next few weeks.

The total cost of the project is around 2.7 billion euros, according to corporate circles. With the planned funding of around two billion euros, the federal government is to provide aid of 1.3 billion, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia is supporting the industrial group with funding of 700 million euros. The group itself has to pay for 700 million.
