Spotify is not transparent enough in its policies!
The Swedish Privacy Protection Agency (IMY) has audited how Spotify exercises customers’ right to access personal data. The deficiencies detected within the scope of the audit, IMY’s 58 million Swedish Krona (approximately $5.4 million) caused him to issue an administrative fine. IMY reported that Spotify discloses the personal data the company processes when users request it, but does not provide satisfactory information on how the company uses this data.
The points that IMY finds inappropriate for Spotify and wants to be changed are as follows:
- The information provided by the company on how and for what purposes the personal data of individuals is processed should be more descriptive.
- When the user requests access to their personal data, it should be easy to transparently convey how the company uses that data.
- Policy texts on the processing of personal data must be disclosed not only in English, but also in the native language of the individual.
