Spotify is deleting tens of thousands of songs from Boomy

Dusseldorf The scam is simple: on the Boomy platform, scammers use artificial intelligence (AI) to create huge numbers of songs in a matter of seconds and publish them on streaming services such as Spotify. There, user profiles controlled by bots download the songs as often as possible – and the fraudsters collect the license fees.

The problem was exacerbated by new, powerful AI models like GPT-4, OpenAI Jukebox and others that can also create music. Spotify cut Boomy’s access for a few days at the beginning of May, as the US start-up itself explained. “The decision was made by Spotify and Boomy to review potentially irregular activity.”

Spotify recently restored Boomy’s access. The streaming giant tightened controls and removed tens of thousands of songs — around seven percent of all songs created by the platform, according to the Financial Times.
