In a strategic move planned from the early stages of development, Miles Morales will take the reins as the lead Spider-Man in Insomniac’s hit series following the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
The decision to shift focus to Miles in the Spider-Man series was made “too early,” according to developers
The series initially revolved around Peter Parker, starting with Marvel’s Spider-Man. However, Insomniac later introduced Miles Morales in its own standalone game. This resulted in the highly anticipated Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which featured both superheroes teaming up. With the final episode now in the hands of players, it’s clear that the future of the series will focus primarily on Miles and give Peter a well-deserved break.
Discussing the pivotal scene where Peter passes the torch to Miles at the end of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, narrative director Ben Arfmann and writer Brittney Morris shed light on the importance of this transition. Morris says: “It always felt very natural, and I think we all thought it would happen.”

Horror-themed Slay the Princess turned the Steam charts upside down. The production, which received 92 points on Metacritic, became one of the best of 2023.
Morris also emphasizes Miles’ character development throughout the play; from uncertainty about his path to embracing the responsibility of saving the city, even carrying Peter when he needs support.
Writing scripts for two Spider-Men presented a unique challenge and opportunity. Morris says: “They are both strong, and when one is not strong, the other can be strong. Eventually Miles becomes more confident and says, ‘Yes, I can handle it.’ How much worse can things get after what we just went through?”
Arfmann explains that the decision to have Miles take on the role of Spider-Man full-time was a conscious choice early in development. “We knew we wanted to experience that moment when we handed over the reins” Arfmann says and continues: “And as we developed that moment, as we began to pave more and more of the path to that moment, we felt more and more true.”
