Spain before the shift to the right: how dangerous is Vox?

Madrid If the polls are to be believed, Spain is on the verge of a shift to the right. In the election on Sunday, the conservative Partido Popular (PP) is likely to receive the most votes and need the right-wing party Vox for a coalition. She has been in parliament since 2019 and has around 13 percent in polls.

According to the forecasts, the ruling Socialists (PSOE) of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and the left-wing coalition alliance Sumar will not come close to a majority together.

With Vox, a right-wing extremist party would be in power in Spain for the first time since the end of the Franco dictatorship in 1975. Spain’s shift to the right would come later than in many other European countries.
