Against the background of sharply rising corona numbers, SPD-Group leader Rolf Mützenich the executive Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) accused of chaotic administration. “Now, of all times, Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn is causing more confusion than clarifying,” said Mützenich to the German Press Agency in Berlin. “First the demand for the epidemic to come to an end, without even the slightest thought of how this could be made practicable for the federal states – we then took that into our hands in Parliament,” said Mützenich. Initially, Spahn had pleaded for an end to the epidemic situation, which the federal states serve as the legal basis for corona measures. Then the SPD, the Greens and the FDP announced that the countries should instead have a catalog of possible restrictions.
“Next, the demand for booster vaccinations for everyone, at a time when not even the most vulnerable people have received such a vaccination,” said the SPD parliamentary group leader. Mützenich also criticized Spahn’s approach for another Corona summit with the federal and state governments, although it was unclear what could be discussed at such a summit. Mützenich said: “Jens Spahn should assume his responsibility, communicate clearly and actually run the business as the Managing Minister of Health – and not abuse his office for advertising events on his own behalf with a view to the CDU chairmanship.”
