“The human ear cannot hear frequencies lower than 20 Hz. The frequencies of the earthquake signal are also usually less than 20 Hz. In these analyzes, in addition to revealing the sounds that seismic signals can create while sophisticatedly beating the underground rocks, they can also contribute to earthquake studies with their distinctive characteristics.
Depending on the sampling period of the earthquake signals recorded by the seismometers, the band speeds are increased and the seismogram (earthquake recording) is compressed so that the earthquake can be made audible. Thus, the frequency content is amplified to thresholds that can be heard by the human ear. By using the same compression parameters for each earthquake, characteristic sounds can be produced and criteria such as source characteristics of earthquakes and shaking durations can be distinguished.”
