Sony stands behind PlayStation Plus price hikes

Sony recently faced backlash after increasing the global prices of all PlayStation Plus 12-month subscriptions by nearly 30%. Eric Lempel, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s chief operating officer, defended this decision in a recent interview, stating that the company needed to adapt to market conditions.

About PlayStation Plus price hikes: “We have to keep up with market conditions”

In September, Sony adjusted the prices of various tiers of PlayStation Plus subscriptions; Essential increased from $59.99 to $79.99, Extra increased from $99.99 to $134.99, and Premium increased from $119.99 to $159.99.

The company explained this significant increase by stating that it will enable them to continue offering high-quality games and additional benefits to subscribers.

The disc version of the Slim model of PlayStation 5, which is expected to be released soon, will require any kind of internet to install.

Lempel emphasized his goal of improving the PlayStation Plus experience, especially with the introduction of the tier system the previous year. He noted that many consumers understand the value of PlayStation 5.

He also made the following statement: “Like almost everything in the world, we have to review our prices and adjust them according to market conditions. I’m happy to say that, unlike many other subscription services, we haven’t touched PlayStation Plus pricing for 85% of the world in many years. So it’s the first time we’ve done something like this.”

This price adjustment comes after Microsoft increased Xbox Game Pass prices. It also increased the prices of Spotify, Amazon, Disney+ and Netflix. Unfortunately, this has become popular among entertainment subscription services.
