Sony suspends PlayStation and other services for Russia

Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister and Head of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, requested support against Russia, using the Xbox and PlayStation tags in a tweet he shared on March 2. In his tweet, he said:

You are certainly aware of what is happening in Ukraine right now. Russia is declaring war not on Ukraine, but on the entire civilized world. If you support human values, you should leave the Russian market!

Thereupon, Sony called on all world companies to unite to put a stop to the Ukraine war, in a post on the PlayStation official Twitter account on March 10. It also announced that it is suspending all software and hardware shipments indefinitely, as well as halting the Gran Turismo 7 event and other PlayStation services.

This decision will not prevent past purchases and operation of devices by customers using PlayStation in Russia. However, it is stated that people who want to buy a new game and console will no longer be able to perform this process.

In addition, Mykhailo Fedorov thanked PayPal for bringing his services to Ukraine and Elon Musk for keeping his word by delivering the 2nd Starlink satellite internet service package as promised. It also called on Union Pay, Intel and Hitachi to take the same stance towards Russia.
