Silicon Valley has been through a tough time. During the corona pandemic, the Valley of the Nerds experienced an exodus. This was followed by a stock market crash, which caused the valuations of companies such as Meta, Alphabet and Microsoft to collapse. Tens of thousands of employees were laid off. The Valley experienced its greatest crisis of meaning. But that’s over now.

San Francisco is at the center of the global artificial intelligence (AI) race. The company OpenAI has demonstrated the performance that the latest language models can already achieve today. Not only text, but also images and music can be created in high quality by algorithms.

If you want to be part of this spirit of optimism, move to Silicon Valley.

Almost every day, companies from the US tech scene present new applications based on AI. The systems are intended to take over bookkeeping in companies and make business planning more efficient. Text robots write advertising texts. Image generators put products in the limelight and make costly photo shoots superfluous. This not only creates images in a few dozen settings, but in thousands. In the future, each product can be advertised individually for a single customer.

But music and voices are also artificially generated. Texts spoken by AI are now so good that the first films are spoken entirely by computers. The profession of voice actor could soon be largely eliminated – possibly also that of interpreter, because the systems can also translate spoken language in real time.

Silicon Valley regularly proclaims the next revolution. The hype surrounding cryptocurrencies has fizzled out. And autonomous driving is not yet accessible to the general public. But everyone can already try out the power of AI robots like ChatGPT with just a few clicks. Pupils were among the first to recognize the potential – because ChatGPT can often solve school assignments in no time at all.

However, the real revolution should only be brought about when it is used in everyday business. The first AI systems can already draw up contracts and help as supporters for law firms. Other systems are optimized for medical applications and are intended to change everyday life in clinics by helping with diagnoses and at the same time evaluating the latest scientific studies.

The race for the best solutions has only just begun. OpenAI has opened the door to a new world. There is much to suggest that the best solutions are now being devised in the Valley.
