The local crypto exchange Thodex left thousands of victims behind after closing its shutters and CEO Faruk Fatih Özer fled abroad.
While some of the victims were seeking their rights in the judiciary, an interesting development took place. It was claimed that Thodex CEO Özer paid 2 million liras for 8 victims to withdraw their complaints.
Sinan Keskin, the lawyer of Thodex victim Yusuf D., who received 1 million 123 thousand TL from Özer, confirmed the allegations and said, “Faruk Fatih Özer is making the payments within the scope of the file for the first time.
We submit petitions to the prosecutor’s office to waive the complaint, after some of the damages of our clients determined within the scope of reconciliation are eliminated.
While the fraud investigation against Özer carried out by the Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office continues, it was stated that Özer’s lawyer wanted to reach some victims and reach a compromise.
Victim’s lawyer, Sinan Keskin, made the following statements regarding Özer’s request for reconciliation:
“Based on this, we conducted reconciliation negotiations in accordance with the rights and interests of our clients. At the same time, we received written and verbal commitments from our clients that they gave their consent to this settlement. Based on this, the amount of loss subject to settlement was deposited into our clients’ accounts on Thursday last week, and we confirmed it by ourselves.
As of the current stage, we are trying to reach many of our clients by phone. Of course, there is a limitation in terms of time. Since we have many clients, we are looking for them one by one. We are trying to keep them informed of this new development. Some of our clients have agreed to have their losses compensated within the scope of this settlement. As I said before, we submitted petitions to the Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office to withdraw the complaint. Of course, the clients, whose damages were compensated within the scope of the settlement, conveyed these to their relatives. There are many victims who call our office about this issue right now. At the same time, we have new clients who have issued a proxy. Negotiations for these are ongoing.
As of last week, only 8 people have been compensated within the scope of reconciliation. Their damage amount is around 2 million. These were deposited in their bank accounts, and we confirmed as our office that they were deposited in the bank. At the same time, as I said in reference to this, we also submitted petitions to the prosecutor’s office to abandon the complaint regarding the criminal complaint.
It is understood from Keskin’s statements that the damages of 8 victims have been remedied for now. While this development is hope for other victims, it is wondered whether Özer will redress the harms of all victims.
