The European Union Parliament recently voted on the new draft law, which includes significant changes in warranty and repair policies. In the event that the draft, called the right to repair, is enacted, the warranty periods and designs of electronic products will change drastically.

Right to repair draft law passed by parliament
The European Union Parliament recently voted on the right to repair bill, which makes it easier for users to self-repair electronic devices and greatly extends the warranty period. The draft passed the parliament with 509 votes to 3 no and 13 abstentions. Thus, the first step in the right to repair law was taken.
With this resolution, members of parliament agreed that an effective right to repair must address the life cycle of electronic products and take into account consumer information on issues such as product design, ethical manufacture, standardization and repairability.
After the draft law passed by the parliament, a survey on the subject was also published. According to Eurobarometer, 79 percent of users of EU citizens prefer to facilitate the repairability of products, and 77 percent prefer to repair the old one rather than buy a new one.
If the draft right to repair is enacted, electronic products will be designed to last longer and be in a structure that users can repair themselves. At the same time, users will be offered free access to parts and repair information at this point. It is not yet clear when the draft law, which will extend the warranty period, will enter into force. However, significant developments may occur as of the third quarter of 2022.
