Munich, Beijing Siemens wants to invest an additional two billion euros this year, primarily in new plants. “We are currently seeing very good growth in all areas and want to accelerate again,” CEO Roland Busch told the Handelsblatt. Busch also indicated that the technology group’s medium-term growth forecasts could be increased.

Despite all the global uncertainties, the Siemens boss continues to rely heavily on China in his plans for the internal “Marco Polo” project. The capacities of the automation plant in Chengdu will be increased by 40 percent, as Busch announced at a strategy presentation in Singapore.

However, to ensure that dependence on China does not become too great, Siemens is pursuing a two-pronged strategy: In China, production is to be carried out primarily for China. By far the greater part of the capacity expansion is at locations in the rest of the world.
