It’s a paradox: the demand for wind turbines has never been as great as it is these days. Nevertheless, manufacturers are reporting red figures – above all Siemens Gamesa. The king of wind turbines at sea just can’t get his business under control.

On the one hand, this is due to the market conditions: raw material prices have risen massively. When it comes to wind turbines, it’s all about steel. Steel prices are at a 10-year high right now and are on the way up. There are also supply chain problems and delays in projects due to the corona pandemic.

Everything has become more expensive for the turbine manufacturers, but it is difficult for them to subsequently raise the prices for their wind turbines. Such contracts are made years in advance. A circumstance that all wind companies are currently struggling with.
