Siemens agrees on transitional guarantees with employees

Munich Siemens’ plans to spin off the business with the large drives have been causing protests and uncertainty for weeks. Because currently 14,000 employees work in the division, which generates a total turnover of three billion euros. According to the union, the group has now agreed in principle with the employee representatives on guarantees for the transition.

In a key issue paper, Siemens had, among other things, promised a three-year location and employment guarantee for the period after a possible separation, IG Metall said on request. All business units and the company headquarters should remain in Germany, collective agreements and co-determination should continue to apply.

IG Metall continues to be skeptical about the spin-off, said the supervisory board member Hagen Reimer from IG Metall to the Handelsblatt. “You tear out a piece of Siemens that would actually have gone well with the other businesses.” But at least the best possible outcome for the employees was achieved in the negotiations.
