Shanghai extends lockdown indefinitely – criticism of the elimination of the obligation to isolate infected people

The Chinese port metropolis Shanghai has the wide-ranging corona lockdown for its 26 million inhabitants extended indefinitely. Referring to the high number of infections, the city government announced that the results of the mass test on Monday, the examination and the transport of the infected to quarantine had to be completed before deciding on the further direction of the control measures.

The Health Commission in Beijing reported more than 16,000 new infections on Tuesday, the highest number in the current, worst corona wave in China in two years. With more than 15,000 are most cases asymptomatic. In Shanghai alone, more than 13,000 infections without symptoms and 268 new diseases were reported after the tests of the past few days. The northeast Chinese province of Jilin is also badly affected.

Anyone who is infected comes to a hospital or a quarantine facility in China, which has been set up in gyms and exhibition halls in Shanghai, but which are reaching their limits. The city has had more than 70,000 infections since the beginning of March – more than 10,000 a day for the first time on Monday. Actually, the curfews in the west should only run from Friday to Tuesday, but as before in the east and south, where the lockdown should go from Monday to Friday, people have to stay at home.
