Seven US Senators Target Bitcoin Mining!

In this context, 7 senators led by Warren sent a letter to Pablo Vegas, CEO of the Texas Electricity Reliability Council (ERCOT).

In their letter to the CEO, the senators asked cryptocurrency miners to detail their electricity use over the past six years, their carbon dioxide emissions, and how consumers’ electricity use has been impacted.

Senators, who stated that the amount of energy used in the state of Texas was straining the electricity grid, said that this situation negatively affected the US climate targets.

The following statements were included in the letter:

“In simple terms, Bitcoin miners make money from mining, which creates huge loads on the power grid.

And Bitcoin mining adds a significant demand load to an already unreliable grid and contributes to the global climate crisis.”

Describing the state of Texas as an unregulated safe haven, US senators claimed that miner activities pose a threat to the state’s power grid.

The letter was signed by Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren, Sheldon Whitehouse, Edward J. Markey, Al Green, Katie Porter, Jared Huffman and Rashida Tlaib.
