On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey, the digital collection, which was launched with the aim of bringing selections from the culinary and cultural heritage dating back thousands of years in the lands where the Republic was founded, to the Google Arts & Culture platform, includes historical artifacts, ruins, arts and crafts, food hosted by Turkey. Many well-known and hidden values, such as culture, are brought to the fore.

The digital collection, which was opened to the world via the Google Arts & Culture platform under the title “Treasures of Turkey”, includes more than 70 stories, written and visual content prepared in collaboration with experts, a documentary series consisting of 10 videos and 17 new “Street Views” recorded for the first time in Turkey. ” is hosting the shooting. Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy made the following statements:

“As it is known, as the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, we carry out intensive advertising and PR activities abroad through the Turkish Tourism Promotion and Development Agency, in order to diversify our country’s tourism products and target markets and to extend the tourism season to 12 months and 81 provinces.

In line with these goals, we see the Google Arts and Culture Turkey Platform, which is the product of our collaboration with Google, as an important global tool for introducing our country to the world. Of course, it was unthinkable that a country like Turkey, which is extremely rich in culture and cuisine, would not take part in this extremely important global platform.

Within the digital collection, a documentary series consisting of 10 videos was prepared by the world-renowned British historian, writer and documentary broadcaster Bettany Hughes: Osman Hamdi Bey, Life After Death, Mevlana and His Legacy, Troy and Its Legends, As a Center of Faith: Ephesus, Mosaics, Ottoman Tile and Carpet Art, Republic and Atatürk, Jewelery and Yenikapı Shipwrecks from Ancient Times to the Present.

In the videos, in which historians and experts such as İlber Ortaylı, Mevlana’s 22nd generation grandson Esin Çelebi Bayru, Zeynep İnankur, Fatma Acun, Sevan Bıçakçı, Refika Birgül took part, mini interviews were conducted about the cultural assets mentioned in the videos, and they were recorded in places around the world with English and Turkish subtitles. made available to users.

British historian and documentary producer Bettany Hughes said the following about the documentary process of the digital collection:

“Choosing just 10 examples to create a selection from Turkey’s rich cultural heritage was quite challenging. There are so many stories to choose and tell. In consultation with our stakeholders, we created a series using a wide range of topics, from epic monuments to mosaics, from elegant jewelery to the birth of the Republic.

We learned many new things in each video we shot. I would like to thank once again the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and many institutions affiliated with the Ministry, esteemed museum directors, historians, experts and archaeologists who helped us during the shooting processes and in providing content. “I am happy to support such a digital collection in such an important period as the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey.”
